Playgroups: MADS playgroups are divided into four groups depending on the age of the child: 0-12 months (Group A), 1-2 years (Group B), 2-3 years (Group C) and 4-6 years (Group C+). New members are directed to the appropriate playgroup in their area. Moms take turns in hosting the playgroup and it is a fun opportunity for kids and new moms to get to know people in a new country. The playgroups help bring moms with similar concerns together in one homogeneous group.
Social Events: MADS organises Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties for its little darlings and tickets may be purchased by both members and non-members. Food and fun activities for children like bouncy castles, craft activities, acrobat shows and prizes, etc. are the highlight of these events.
MADS also hosts events without darlings such as, coffee mornings and cocktail parties, throughout the year for the members to catch up in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Yahoo! Group Resource: MADS moms are linked on the Yahoo! network and it is one of MADS’ most valuable resources. Whether one is new to Manila and needs help settling in, or has questions on parenting, a query on the Yahoo! group can help one find not only answers but plenty of support from fellow MADS moms. In order to join the MADS Yahoo! network, please join MADS first at:![]()
MADS Magazine: MADS publishes a bi-monthly magazine that focuses on issues related to parenting and expat life for moms in Manila. It also serves as a source for news from MADS.
MADS Cookbook: MADS members from around the world provided their favourite family recipes to put together a marvellous cookbook of delicious, nutritious meals, desserts, and sweet treats. The cook book is included in the new members welcome pack while stocks last.
MADS Hospitality Guide: An exhaustive resource listing everything you could ever need to find in Manila from information on doctors, schools, party organisers, and child-friendly restaurants. Currently out of publication but under review. (Ask a long-term member for a photocopy of theirs).
Working Moms Support Group: This has been established especially for working moms whose schedule does not permit them to attend a playgroup during weekdays. The group gets together with moms, dad and darlings for a playgroup one Saturday a month. The group also organises a dinner out for the moms once a month.
Pregnancy, Newborn and Breast Feeding Support Group: This group is a great resource for expectant moms or moms with newborns. The group meets twice a month to share information and support. A midwife typically attends the group meeting to answer questions about preganancy, birth, breastfeeding and infant care.
Cooking Sessions: A group of MADS moms who are cooking enthusiasts get together once a week at each other’s homes to learn new recipes, cooking tips, and learn about different cultures through sharing good food. Members come from many different countries, including, Albania, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Turkey, and the USA.
The cooking mornings are free of charge and members volunteer to host sessions to show how to prepare some of their favourite dishes. Participants get to sample the dishes at the end of the meeting and share recipes.
