We had a nice and relaxed Christmas party here in Alabang on one Sunday afternoon in December. The party was held in one of our member's house - in fact, it was in my house! We thought it would be a good idea to hold the Christmas party in somebody's house rather than in some public venue, since Christmas is supposed to be a celebration for families and friends - and having it in cozy personal settings would match the occasion much better.
It turned out to be a nice sunny afternoon with a little fresh breeze. Since it was during weekend, many Dads also attended the party, and they seemed to enjoy socializing with other Dads. The mothers looked more relaxed, and all the kids were busy enjoying the activities we had: cookie decorations, Christmas crafts, face painting, tattoo station, and a great, big, red bouncy castle! All the activities were set at the back yard of our house, and in the beautiful sunshine and green grassy garden setting, all the families looked somehow very peaceful - a real Christmas atmosphere! Just to top it up, we also had a kids entertainer who organized lots of games.
And now to reveal a little of the back stage happenings: Our social committee members went through quite a little panic just before the party when the Santa, we have been booking just didn't shop up - he had forgotten, had double-booked, and was somewhere in downtown Manila just 2 minutes before everyone arrived!
So where did our Santa came from (we naturally had one anyway)? He came from Italy! We found a Dad who was at the party, who we thought would be great with the kids. We asked him, we begged him - Please!!! Luckily we had a Santa costume lying around, which we had bought 10 years ago in Japan. This Dad was so kind to accept and did an amazing job, patiently sitting together with all the kids, giving candy, listening to wish lists, and having never-ending pictures taken by the photographer we had hired for the event. To look even more Santa Clausy, another dad willingly gave up his eye glasses. Oh, what a great Santa we had!
When you plan an event, many planned and unplanned things happen. But our party was made possible by many helping hands. And we really appreciated all the good heart and intentions - true Christmas spirit all around!
Thank you so much to our Italian Santa, and all the Dads, Moms and kids for coming and sharing a wonderful Christmas time!
